Br Peter Angelo Dezani SDB was born 2 April 1925 in Camerano, Italy, made his first profession 16 August 1944 and his final profession 16 August 1948. He landed in Australia in 1949 and worked at Sunbury, Brooklyn Park and Brunswick before arriving at Glenorchy in 1966.
Br Peter remained at Glenorchy from this time until his death 9 November 2000, working with the boys of Savio College initially, thence the girls and boys of Dominic College, teaching woodwork and industrial skills, educating for life skills, caring for all children with his simple and smiling philosophy, creating the recreation rooms, spreading his enthusiasm for table-tennis and nurturing generations of old scholars from his bunker in the Rat Hole.
'Many of you would have fond memories of Br Peter,' Dominic College past Principal Beth Gilligan says. 'He was a faith-filled Salesian teacher, friend and mentor to his students, the old scholars, their families and his confreres. He was a modern day man moulded in the spirit of Don Bosco.'
'He was a dedicated Brother who knew and lived out the charism of the Salesians,' she said. 'He was always available with a smile and a word of encouragement.' In continuing his influence and recognising his service, the College initiated a Scholarship Fund to provide financial assistance to allow a student to attend Dominic College who may otherwise not have the opportunity.
