On Friday 31 March, a team of eight students from Years 9/10 competed in the Da Vinci Decathlon at Launceston, for the first time for Dominic!
The Decathlon is an academic challenge in 10 different subjects across academic fields of Maths, English, Engineering, Creative Producers, Cartography, Science, Art & Poetry, Code Breaking, General Knowledge and Ideology.
We were on the road at 5.30am to the venue, Scotch Oakburn, with a quick stop in Campbell Town for a warm drink that made the morning slightly easier.
Arriving at the school, we met the other nine teams from around the state, who were also competing in the Decathlon. It was a day full of brainstorming, productive thinking, but lots of fun. Some of the tasks were challenging but we managed to put our heads together and successfully worked as a team.
One of the many highlights was the success Jak and Julia had in the Creative Arts arena. They came up with a 60 second skit, strongly involving elements of drama, performed in front of two judges. They earned themselves a 2nd place. Well done!
We would like to sincerely thank Dominic College for this amazing opportunity that tested and pushed us to achieve.
We hope this opportunity extends to next year’s students, as this was a wonderful experience that allowed us to put all of our strengths together and work as a strong team.
