Death of Mr Frank Lewis

Last week St John’s held a funeral service to remember the life of Frank Lewis, old scholar of Boys’ Town and past parent and friend of Dominic College.

Frank was born in 1943 in England, grew up in a Catholic orphanage and was one of the 39 child migrants sent to Glenorchy during 1952. These boys had some hard times, struggled with schooling and often were left to cope with life after school without support or family.

Terry Harvey, one of Frank’s school mates, said that the bond with all the boys, the Salesians and especially the child migrants still remains.

‘They were our family, and later in life, and even today, their families are our families. Lew was a lovable larrikin with a touch of rebellion, but like many of us, imperfect in some aspects of his life. He was a true and honest mate and from our group and to his family we thank you all for making us a part of your lives.’

Frank’s children Jacqui, John and Liz attended Dominic College during the 1980s. Students represented the College at the funeral and formed a guard of honour, along with Frank’s schoolmates and friends, in farewell.
