The Old Scholars Football roster got underway on Saturday 9 April at the TCA, and the Dominic Old Scholars had a mixed bag in their Round 1 games against University. The reserves fell behind earlier, but managed to catch and pass their opponents for a gritty win. Our seniors, however, did not click - University had numbers to the ball and a more efficient kicking game in the strong, blustery winds. The highlights of the game included excellent performances from our students on the scoreboard and with the water. Well done, lads!
Round 2 was against Hutchins away, and both DOSA teams recorded wins, the seniors building a big lead in the first quarter then hanging on, just, for a gritty win by two points. Whew!
Round 3 was against OHA and both teams had good wins, the reserves by five points in a cliffhanger, and the seniors by a strong seven goals. DOSA stalwart Justin Carroll played his 150th game and celebrated in style with six goals.
Saturday 30 April, DOSA defeated St Virgils at the TCA in the big rivalry game. Tim Golding, Class of 2001, played his 250th game for DOSA, and Matthew Harrison, Class of 1999, played his 200th. Matthew fractured his neck two years ago, but was given the all-clear to play again, and he has enjoyed reaching this milestone.
‘A lot of us went to high school together, which is what drew us to the club in the first place,’ Matthew said, ‘and nearly all of us are still there, even into our 30s.’
There was more cheers, too, for Matthew Scott, celebrating his 150th game for DOSA.
Both seniors and reserved had very healthy wins. Goals galore in all quarters!
