Dominic College was privileged to host 32 students from 10 different schools during the recent school holidays, to participate in a song writing workshop with high profile Australian Music Director Darryl Beaton.
Working alongside Brett Budgeon, Mark Schmalfuss, Greg Souter and myself, Darryl took the students through three days of song writing and recording processes and the students loved every minute of it.
The participants ranged in age from Year 5 to Year 12 and the combined talent of these students was impressive.
Over the three days, students worked both individually and in groups to produce 15 songs to a very commendable standard.
These songs were then performed in a culminating showcase event on the Wednesday evening to parents and friends. Darryl and Mark featured heavily in these performances, with the students and the audience, loving having them involved in their performances.
The favourite song of the workshop was called Nauru written by two Year 6 students, Rupert and Eve.
This song was recorded by Darryl in our studio, with the recording process being demonstrated to the remainder of the group.
The workshop was a tremendous success and we look forward to having more students join us when we run this event again next year.
