K-2 students at Dominic College were lucky enough to meet some local superstars firsthand last week when cricket stars Caleb Jewell and Tim Ward made a special visit to the College. Caleb plays for the Tassie Tigers and the Hobart Hurricanes and Tim plays for the Tassie Tigers and both are elite cricketers.
The session was also facilitated by Cricket Tasmania employees Lauren Hepburn and Tim Bessell who were wonderful and engaging with our K-2 classes. Students were lucky enough to participate in twenty minutes of motor skills activities and then some Q and A time with our special guests. Some great questions were asked from ‘why did you take up cricket as a sport?’ to ‘What is your favourite breakfast?’. It was heaps of fun for our K-2 students and they all enjoyed the games and activities working on fundamental motor skills in throwing, bouncing, and catching which is a real focus in K-2 HPE across Tasmania currently in most schools.
Dominic is investigating signing up to the ‘Captain’s Challenge’ Program for Term 4 which we will aim to run in Daily Fitness time for students at the College in K-2 which has an intense daily focus on these important motor skills for life-long physical activity (Link here for more information- https://www.hobarthurricanes.com.au/captains-chall... ).
Thanks to our wonderful guests Caleb, Tim W, Tim B, and Lauren, and good luck to the Hobart Hurricanes and Tassie Tiger’s in their upcoming seasons. Our students and staff will be keeping a close eye on Caleb Jewell and Tim Ward especially now after these visits.
