Holy Week

This week, students across the College have taken the time to recall and mark the journey of Christ’s passion.

Students have entered these liturgies and ceremonies with reverence and sincerity, demonstrating respect and understanding of the meaning of the Lenten Season for our faith community.

Our Year 5 and 6 students are to be particularly commended for the outstanding way they prepared and offered the opportunity for our K-6 students to commemorate the Way of the Cross across the College grounds.

The Way of the Cross, also called the Stations of the Cross, is used to signify either a series of pictures or tableaux in our case, representing certain scenes in the Passion of Christ, each corresponding to a particular incident in Christ’s journey to Calvary.

The walk through of the Way of the Cross is to help our students to make in spirit, as it were, a pilgrimage to honour the chief scenes of Christ’s sufferings and death. It is carried out by passing from Station to Station, with prayers at each and meditation on the various incidents.

Since the seventh century, this has become one of the most popular of our Catholic devotions worldwide and has become a solemn ritualistic tradition for our K-6 students.

As we bring our school preparation for the Easter rituals to conclusion, I wish to thank all students, staff and families for their generous outreach to the poor and needy through your ready financial support of Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion.

I particularly commend our Year 10 House leaders who have been active fundraisers to assist us to stand together in solidarity with the world’s poor to help end poverty, promote justice and uphold the dignity of all people.

As we recount the events leading to the death of Jesus, we invite students and families to celebrate the hope of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead this coming Sunday.

The rituals of Easter remind us that God does not abandon us but comforts us during our dark times, and that through God’s love, darkness in our lives shall pass and all life will be renewed.
