Our annual International Women’s Day Breakfast was held this week in the College Savio Centre.
This is a wonderful community event, celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. We were delighted to welcome our special guest speaker, Dr Joanna Vince, a Dominic College Old Scholar and UTAS Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Relations.
Joanna generously shared her inspiring journey as a student at Dominic College and her subsequent choice in tertiary pathways which led to her career as a university senior academic, specialising in ocean research, an area of personal passion for her.
She now enjoys a career which has taken her to many parts of the world and provided her with many exciting opportunities.
Joanna informed the audience that only thirty percent of senior university positions in academia are currently held by women. She hoped that the future would see greater numbers of women attaining senior roles and reaching pay parity. Joanna gave a positive message encouraging other women to break beyond the 'glass ceiling' and pursue their passion.
It was delightful to welcome Joanna back to the College campus and she enjoyed a tour of the school after the Breakfast.
