On Tuesday 13 August, 22 students from across Year 4 – Year 9, represented the College at the Kids Unlimted Southern Interschool Chess Tournament.
Students participated in seven rounds of competitive chess, against students from The Friends School, The Hutchins School, St Virgil’s College, St Aloysius Catholic College, Mt Nelson Primary, Cygnet Primary and Princes Street Primary.
Before we started, Dominic College Chess Team Captain Dione Oloroso briefed our players on some of the technical rules. Overall everyone did extremely well, and the level of sportsmanship was commented on by the organisers.
Briana Shaji was also awarded a medal for the top female player. Considering our K-6 students competed in Division A, and our 7-10 students competed in an U18 Competition, it was an exceptional effort all-round.
Congratulations to Dione Oloroso (Team Captain), Ava Lawler, Zac Pfitzner, Hayden Carpenter, Youngin Kim, Jack Jordan, Jake Waller, Callum Kelly, Cameron Moase, Daisy Lincoln, Lachlan Braslin, Noah Oliver, Joshua Direen, Blake Sillifant, Samuel Judges, Lachlan Yaxley, Ethan McMaster, Phoenix Lorbach, Briana Shaji, Priyanka Jibi, Akshat Kumar and Max Peters.
There were some exceptional efforts, with Lachlan Braslin and Zac Pfitzner winning three out of their seven matches, Max Peters and Briana Shaji winning four out of their seven matches and our team Captain Dione finishing with four wins and a draw.
