On Tuesday 27 October all students in Years 7-9 gathered in the Savio Centre to begin the process of discernment of our 2016 College leaders.
Year 9 students who nominated for the roles of College Captains, gave their speeches to the assembly and this was followed by voting by students directly afterwards.
Students nominating for College Captain spoke with passion and commitment to the roles and were very impressive. Common themes emerged in their speeches of their love of Dominic College as a community of friends and dedicated leaners and a deep desire to give back to our community which has given them so much.
All students spoke of a hope to support and care for their peers and to serve them to their best ability.
As I listened to student after student speak of their sincere desire to sustain Dominic as an inclusive and open community where all are warmly welcomed and included, I felt great pride in these young people, who they have become and how they think.
It takes courage to speak from the heart about one’s beliefs and convictions and I congratulate all student nominees on their commitment to Dominic College and to their peers.

Servant Leadership
By coincidence, our College Council Chair, Fr Bernie Graham
SDB led our meeting in prayer this week with poems by Philip
Clarke Brewer on being a servant leader, one of them titled
Five Loaves and Two Fishes places God rather than us at the
centre:
God uses what you have
To fill a need which you could never have filled.
God uses where you are
To take you where you never could have gone.
God uses what you can do
To accomplish what you never could have done.
God uses who you are
To let you become who you never could have been.
As the process of discernment continues for our 2016 student
leaders we continue to enjoy and appreciate the great work of
our current leaders in their service to Dominic College.
