National Excellence in Teaching Award

Last week we received news that our K-2 Teaching & Learning Coordinator and Literacy Support teacher, Mrs Jane Doyle has been awarded a National Excellence in Teaching Award.

Jane is one of three Tasmanian educators who has been awarded this national recognition this year, involving a selection process within a field of 1,350 teacher nominations from across the country. We extend our congratulations to Jane, whose nomination by P&F President, Nicola Rayner, was strongly endorsed by the College.

Jane’s achievements include the establishment of our K-6 Japanese program, the success of the Mamma Margaret Kitchen Garden project, and the initiation of the College’s ‘Scientists in Schools’ program as well as establishing our partnership with parents Literacy and Numeracy Workshops.

Jane is recognized as a huge asset to Dominic College and has a reputation in our community as a quality teacher who knows how children learn and engages children in exciting learning processes. She has deeply influenced the way technology has positively supported student learning in K-2.

In taking up the new K-2 Literacy Support teacher role at the beginning of 2015, Jane was entrusted to identify targeted students based on data, develop appropriate programs and assess and monitor student progress. Working with teachers, she has been measurably shifting student achievement levels and demonstrating improved student outcomes due to her drive, expertise and skill.

Jane has also been a wonderful and generous mentor to graduate teachers and Early Career teachers at the College. She is consistently named by our young teachers as one of the best influences and support they have had as a young teacher.

We wish Jane well in the next round of the selection process.
