New Salesian provincial announced

Last week the Rector Major of the Salesians appointed Fr William Matthews SDB as the 11th Provincial of Australia-Pacific Region for a period of six years commencing on 1 January 2018. The current Provincial, Fr Greg Chambers SDB, completes his six year term on 30 December this year.

Fr William was born in Mandalay (Myanmar). His family migrated to Australia in 1994 for a better future for the whole family, and to be closer with other relatives who have been in Australia for many years.

Fr William joined the Salesians in Melbourne in 1995 and he was ordained in 2005. Following his ordination to the Priesthood, he was involved in teaching and chaplaincy work at St Joseph’s Ferntree Gully, Salesian College Sunbury, both in Victoria and Xavier College in Gawler, South Australia.

The Dominic College community congratulates Fr William on his appointment and look forward to meeting him when he visits our College. We also thank Fr Greg for all his support throughout his six years as Provincial of the Salesians.
