On Wednesday night, 7 September, we launched our 2016 Creative Arts Festival with a terrific community gathering in The Long Gallery in the Salamanca Arts Centre. The individual and collective student art works K-10 are so interesting and we all thoroughly enjoyed the launch.
The Tasmanian Minister for the Arts, Dr Vanessa Goodwin, who launched the festival, extended high praise to the College for our student achievement in the Arts. She affirmed our focus on the Arts as facilitating strong academic and personal outcomes for students.
We also enjoyed the significant presence of our friends, Madam Speaker, Elise Archer, and Glenorchy Mayor, Kirstie Johnston, as well as a large number of old scholars, parents and students.
As well as refreshments and speeches, the crowd enjoyed a special musical performance by one of our College contemporary groups, and a beautiful performance of 'Shackleton' by our combine choir. But best was the lovely artwork, produced by students form kindergarten through to Year 10.
As part of this exhibition there are student produced short movies, a photo exhibition plus interactive group children's art.
Do visit the gallery on Friday or Saturday from 10am through till the early evening. You can check the program of events at www.dominic.tas.edu.au/creativeartsfestival
