At Dominic College students have access to a range of online learning tools.
K-6 students have a Mathletics account where they can develop their mathematical skills and an ABC Reading Eggs account for literacy development.
Each student has a log on and a password that allows them access to a range of learning activities and educational games that can be completed at school or at home.
Both of these accounts will remain active during the upcoming summer holiday and are an excellent way for students to maintain their skill levels over the holiday break.
Spending 20 minutes three or four times a week on either Mathletics or Reading Eggs these holidays will ensure that your child returns to school without suffering what is known as ‘summer slide’.
Mathletics is an online learning space based on the Australian Mathematics curriculum. Mathletics activities give students the opportunity to practise their mathematics skills.
As each question is answered, immediate feedback is given letting students know if they are correct or incorrect. Each activity adapts to the student’s level automatically with questions becoming slightly easier or slightly harder to suit their ability level.
The online reading program has two sections. The first is called ABC Reading Eggs and is designed to support early reading skills in a fun and motivating way. The program features hundreds of guided reading lessons and interactive activities to teach young children phonics, letter recognition and sight words.
The second section is called ABC Reading Eggspress and is designed for children in Years 1 to 6. ABC Reading Eggspress offers a huge range of highly engaging resources that include reading comprehension lessons, spelling lessons and a massive online library of e-books with over 2000 fiction and non-fiction titles.
An area that students particularly enjoy is ‘The Stadium’. In this area students can compete in real time against other players and tests skills in one of four areas: spelling, vocabulary, usage and grammar.
Both the Mathletics and ABC Reading Eggs programs were created to encourage children to keep improving their numeracy and literacy skills.
We hope your child is able to take advantage of them now as well as during the upcoming holidays.
