A few weeks ago, Year 10 student Bridget Snell, came to see the staff regarding an inspiring young woman who is trying to bring some happiness and compassion to people’s lives.
Sarah De Jonge aims to make 1,000 small hearts that can be kept in people’s pockets as a symbol of love and compassion.
Sarah made her first pocket heart while working at Calvary Hospital. She set about sewing the heart shapes before handing them out to patients or family members who were going through difficult times.
Sarah then posted photos of what she was doing on her Facebook account and the response has been overwhelming.
Inspired, Sarah said she was determined to make 1,000 hearts to distribute as far and wide as she could.
Sarah spoke at our 7-10 assembly on Wednesday and the student body was amazed that one person with a simple idea could achieve so much.

Sprinkles of kindness
For the remainder of Term 2, students and teachers in Years 7- 10 can be involved in the project at lunch times.
I listened to what Ms Gilligan spoke about in her Principal’s address in our assemblies. There were many in our school community who struggle and are hurting.
There are also many students who want to do something to help, but often we don’t know what to do. I want to help fellow students support and acknowledge those who are faced with these challenges.
‘Sprinkles of Kindness’ will involve the making of small craft hearts, which can then be given out discretely, and kept in the pockets, or pencil cases of students, so they are reminded we care, and they matter as they face their difficult times.
So come along to B5 at lunchtimes if you would like to sprinkle some kindness in somebody’s life this winter!
