VET classes at Dominic College are very busy finalising work units by the end of the year ready for assessment. The aim is to obtain competency in specific units in Certificate I in Construction & Certificate II in Engineering Pathways.
Units offered at Dominic College are:
These units are adult accredited courses, which can be used in the future at GYC or another senior secondary college or used in a student’s CV for an apprenticeship or traineeship application.
Students in Certificate 1 Construction have been very busy completing their unit in Basic Construction project and many of the students were successful gaining a competency in the White Card assessment.
In Certificate ll in Engineering Pathways students have been busy completing their engineering project of a 4WD shovel and an engineer clamp, using hand tools and a range of machinery. Many of the students have developed their welding skills to a pleasing standard and some are very close to achieving competency in the Electric Welding machines unit.
Dominic College is fortunate to have third parties who take a keen role in developing the knowledge and progress of our students: such as the Master Builders who provide a very informative presentation, BGAS who are involved in the future prospect of employment, Colin Barwick from Tasweld who shares his expertise in the Welding Unit.
We thank these organisations for partnering with us to ensure our students have a rich learning experience in their VET pathways. Students undertaking VET studies at Dominic College have the opportunity to continue their studies at GYC in Year 11 and Year 12. Students who have enrolled in VET at GYC for 2018 will soon enter the suitability process as part of their enrolment.
