On Thursday we welcomed students from Westerway, New Norfolk, Austins Ferry and Windermere Primary Schools to our first ever Japanese Cultural Experience Day. Students form these schools joined our own Year 4 students and staff at Dominic College for a day devoted to Japanese language and culture.
Our staff welcomed all the schools and our Taiko drumming students, plus special guest star Ben Dowling from the class of 2017, demonstrated Taiko drums with flair and energy. Year 10 student Alec Mielke conducted a demonstration of Japanese martial arts and three of our own students re-enacted their Japanese speeches which they gave during their oral examinations.
Our Year 9/10 Elective Japanese students who assisted and guided all students and teachers through their activities from location to location. Learning activities including Taiko and Origami, Shibori Dyeing, Sushi Making, Robotics, Calligraphy and a range of fun Japanese games.
A very big thank you to all the students and teachers involved in making the day happen, with special thanks to Kumishiro-sensei and Allan sensei for their coordination and organisation of the entire event.
