On Wednesday 30 November, 120 fresh new 2017 Dominic College Year 7s embarked on Orientation Day.
The morning started with an introduction by Ms Gilligan, detailing how this group will spend the next four years together and eventually be the Class of 2020. Although scary to think, some of the best memories these students will have in their lives will happen over the next few years together.
Students undertook four key activities throughout the day. In Science, run by Ms Mallay and her amazing helpers, students were required to create structures that would keep an egg safe while dropping it two stories from the Link Walkway.
HPE run by Mr Mackie, Mr Golding and the new 2017 Sport Captains created an obstacle course in which students practised themselves, then worked in teams to complete as fast as possible.
Maths Testing was undertaken by Mr Harris and Ms Agius and students said this was one of the highlights of the day. Finally, the House Coordinators ran a Photography activity and some teambuilding activities.
In the middle of the day, the students teamed up with a Year 9 ‘Buddy’ and undertook a cryptic treasure hunt. This was concluded by a shared BBQ.
Thanks to Mrs Guy for her exceptional work, the staff who ran activities, Mr Wright for his organisation and Mrs Jeffery for her organisation of the photography activity. Congratulations to our new House Coordinators, Miss Brownrigg, Mr Parkin and Mrs Davey for dominating their first activity.
The new Year 7 students were an amazing group and we can’t wait to have them as part of our community!
