Final day of Term 4 2018

​The final day of Term 4 for students, Friday 14 December, was an excellent day of celebration and fun. Students were involved with administration in the morning, cleaning up classrooms, cleaning out lockers, readying to take home their Christmas craft and gifts, talking to teachers about their plans for the summer break, preparing for our Advent Mass and, for many, filling up water balloons for the big game of Flags for Year 5-9 students.

K-6 facilities developments

The improvement and expansion of Dominic College’s K-6 has been identified as a strategic priority. The K-6 buildings are now 14 years old and in need of expansion and refurbishment. The classrooms were originally built to accommodate a 1.5 stream primary which resulted in the need to build four classrooms near the oval (Years 5 and 6).

Year 9 - The Abyss

This week at Dominic College all of the Year 9 cohort went on a journey called The Abyss. The Abyss is a part of a course called “The Right Journey” and is a program taught all around Australia.

ADFA Graduation of old scholar

Congratulations to old scholar, Connor Haas (2012), who not only was awarded his Bachelor of Business but then at his Defence Force graduation was awarded the RSL Sword of Service.

2019 Creative Arts Scholarships awarded

Each year Dominic College offers a limited number of Creative Arts Scholarships into Year 7 in the areas of Music, Drama, Dance and Visual Art and this year we received many exceptional applications.

A community of Japanese learners

In Kinder Mice’s Japanese lesson on Friday, a little boy asks me if he can go to the toilet. Thomas Golding pipes up, and using perfect Japanese, says “no, you have to say, ‘toire ni itte mo ii desu ka’”.

DELC Holiday Program

​Dominic Early Learning Centre, run by Discovery, held their big Christmas party last Friday, and the community enjoyed our oval, facility, tents and barbecues as well as some fabulous entertainment in jumping castles, face painting and Santa.

Robotic Club end-of-year wrap

We held our last Robotics Club meeting for 2018 after school last Friday afternoon 7 December. We always finish off with a party where everyone brings some party food to share and Mrs Kinne supplies the drinks.

Year 8 boys camp and Year 8 girls camp

In the second last week of Term 4 Year 8 students travel to Freycinet for a thrre-day camp as part of their EMPOWER Program. The boys travel on the Monday and return Wednesday - the girls begin on the Wednesday and return Friday.

Launch into Learning concluded for 2018 last week. Thank you to all the wonderful families that have come along this year and supported the program. We have thoroughly enjoyed watching the children participate eagerly in the activities.
