Year 6 Canberra trip

The Year 6 trip to Canberra in the last week of Term 3 was a tremendous learning experience for everyone, and a great success. Each place visited provided new insights and educational richness to our History units about ‘Democracy’ and ‘The Australian Government’.

Year 9 Northern Territory trip

On 24 September, 42 students and five staff assembled at Hobart airport. The group prepared to commence the annual Year 9 trip and began their journey from the small island of Tasmania to the outback landscapes of the Northern Territory.

The House Debating competition came to a fitting conclusion last week with the final debates held in The Oratory Space, and with guest adjudicator Mr Casni presiding.

Music and Dance Showcase success

On Thursday 20 September over 180 students participated in the second Dominic College Music & Dance Showcase. The event gives us the opportunity to present the large scale music and dance performance works in a suitable venue, the Don Bosco creative Arts Centre, GYC.

Greetings from Japan

Six years ago, in 2012, we held our inaugural Asian Festival at Dominic College and we had just commenced the gradual introduction of Japanese as our foundational Language other than English (LOTE) in K-6.

Cooking with Lisa sensei

​On Monday Year 8 and Year 9/10 Japanese elective classes welcomed Japanese Teacher Assistant, Lisa sensei, back to the College to provide guidance for cooking some Japanese food. Year 8 students made a popular dish called “Oyakodon” – a delicious topping of flavoured chicken and egg on a bed of rice. The overall review was that it was very tasty, so hopefully some families may benefit from the students’ new Japanese recipe repertoire!

Maths students success at Dominic

President of the Mathematical Association of Tasmania, Mr Brett Stephenson, was here to present the major awards to these students. He commented that Dominic College was the only school in Tasmania to have gained a major place in each division of the competition, so congratulations to all 22 students who participated in this competition for facing up to such a difficult challenge and for doing the College proud.
