Rite Journey - The Departure
On Thursday evening, Year 9 students and their families participated in the annual Rite of Passage Ceremony, “The Departure”. This is a process that involves expressing gratitude towards the people who have cared for you and looked after you in times of need.

Mural Project for College Chapel
Dominic College and ‘Hullabaloo’ Designs have embarked on an exciting collaboration with a Mural Project for our Chapel. This project, initiated by our Principal, Ms Gilligan, and led by Ms Audrey Durbridge, is intended to bring a visually creative element into the interior walls of the Chapel and complement both its architecture and location. The completed mural will consist of a three-panelled triptych that will hang towards the far end wall.

VET Hospitality dinner success
This week our new VET Hospitality Class took the opportunity to extend student gratitude to the most significant volunteer group in the College - our wonderful P&F Committee.

Shizuoka Blog from Mr Mike
This week has continued to be a learning experience for me at Shizuoka Salesio. Lunchtimes have been occupied assisting Miss Miho Arai in staging a short playlet, written by Mr Akira Taniguchi which will be performed as part of St Mary’s Festival, being presented this coming Saturday at the school.

Year 7 Drama: Comedy
This term in Drama, Year 7 students are getting more than a double dose of humour as they begin exploring the many facets of Comedy in performance. Each week students are developing skills and applying different concepts to create short, performed examples of specific comedy styles.

Year 6 Reader's Cup challenge
Each year southern Tasmanian schools join together to battle for the coveted Readers’ Cup. This year Dominic College Year 6 students have decided to take the challenge to a new level.

Congratulations to Jacob Tarvydas on his performance in last week’s Tasmanian All Schools XC MTB Championships where he placed 15th out of 175 competitors in the Under 17 race.

Latest news from the P&F
We have had a very busy couple of months since our February meeting with some of our most popular events being very well supported.
Thank you to all parents who took the time to come along to the Parent Uniform Forum that was held instead of the March P&F Meeting. Parents who attended received information regarding the uniform review, engaged in small group discussions and also talked to our designer at Perm A Pleat.

Shizuoka Salesio College relationship
At the 7-10 Assembly this week, Harry Breslin (Year 9), Mrs Susie Allan and I had the pleasure of sharing some of our experiences from our recent Japan Study Tour. You can read a more detailed summary of the trip later in this newsletter. Whilst on the study tour, we had the opportunity to visit Shizuoka Salesio College, our new sister school. Last year, Ms Gilligan went to visit a number of schools across Japan and has successfully established a relationship with Salesio College.

Uniform Review Update
Last week, the College Uniform Review and Re-Design Committee met for the third time with the focus on reviewing perspectives provided from the parent and staff focus groups based on the stakeholder survey feedback. These were held at the end of Term 1. Our student leaders held focus groups with the K-6 and 7-10 SRCs this week.
