Dominic students stand out at SSATIS Athletics

Congratulations to the 86 students who proudly represented Dominic College in the SSATIS Athletics Carnival at the Domain Athletics Centre on Wednesday. All students represented the College with pride, commitment and showed exceptional leadership skills.

K-6 Grandparents Day visit

On Wednesday 12 September, we welcomed our grandparents to our school and shared a day filled with love, joy and happiness. We started off the day by greeting our guests and guiding them to the Savio Centre where they were presented with a selection of delicious scones, muffins, fruit and biscuits.

Music students perform at Clarence Eisteddfod

Last week, over 120 Dominic students performed in the City of Clarence Eisteddfod, and we saw some excellent performances.

3-4 Sports Day - schools join in the fun

Students from 4 local catholic schools joined Dominic College Year 3 and Year 4 students for a day of friendship, participation and good competitive fun as we hosted the Year 3/4 Sports Day.

Raising Girls with Steve Biddulph

Earlier this year on Wednesday 11 April, we hosted renowned parent educator and psychologist Steve Biddulph for the first time. On that night, Steve gave his world famous talk on raising boys. It was an enlightening, moving and emotional night and everyone who attended walked away smiling, a little wiser and with a new perspective on boys, including how they grow and develop and the importance of key relationships in their lives. Many left inquiring about whether Steve would be able to return to cover girls.

Year 6 Canberra trip blog

It is that time of year again, and the countdown is on as we head to the last few weeks of Term 3! Students are getting very excited about the prospects of jetting to Canberra for an educationally rich trip, full of wonderful experiences and great times shared with classmates. This year we have a couple of new venues on our itinerary to explore that link in with History, Geography as well as Science.

Tasmanian Governor has fun

The Governor of Tasmania, Her Excellency Professor The Honourable Kate Warner and her husband Mr Warner attended our production of Much Ado About Nothing last Friday night.

Death of Mr Frank Lewis

Last week St John’s held a funeral service to remember the life of Frank Lewis, old scholar of Boys’ Town and past parent and friend of Dominic College. Frank was born in 1943 in England, grew up in a Catholic orphanage and was one of the 39 child migrants sent to Glenorchy during 1952. These boys had some hard times, struggled with schooling and often were left to cope with life after school without support or family.

Melbourne Writers Festival 2018

On Monday 27 August, Rachael Glidden, Sophie Moy, Lily Bowerman, Hannah Lane-MacDonald, Henry Edwards, Tyler Wheeler, Abbey Turner, Chloe Cooper, Erin Waters and Heidi McPherson headed to Melbourne with Mr Kress and Mrs Le Rossignol for the Melbourne Writers Festival. We departed Hobart early and arrived in Melbourne at about 7.20am. We caught the Sky Bus into town and went to Federation Square where the workshops were held.

Veritas 2018

This year’s Veritas magazine, the magazine of the Dominic Old Scholars Association, has been mailed to families and to old scholars who are on our mail list. If you have not received your copy by 5 September, please email oldscholars@dominic.tas.edu.au and include your correct postal address. We will investigate and send you a new magazine if it has gone astray.
